The national flag of Liberia was adopted in 1847. The flag emoji of Liberia is made up of horizontal stripes that alternate between red and white, similarly to the United States flag. In the top left corner, a white star is backed by navy blue. Liberia was established by free people of color that were formerly enslaved in the US. The resemblance between the flags bares witness to this connection.
